Förutom geometriska kroppar i rum inspireras jag av rumslig tvetydighet och fantasifulla figurer. Jag attraheras av tanken att det finns en parallell värld som vi inte ser men som ser oss.

Force in space or Presence in Room

I paint flex ducts and boxes and something in between.

In the 80s I was going to make an elephant that never became an elephant because the room insisted on becoming figures. Walls and floors refused to stay in place but instead created bodies in the room. This was very painful and over the years this has remained an unresolved phenomenon.

At times I have fled to painting comprehensible things such as landscapes and cityscapes.

But this time finally I have gone "all in" and embraced my spatial puzzles without reservations.

What it is cannot be described unambiguously but there is something pareidolic about it. Pareidolia is the brain's tendency to interpret ambiguous shapes as familiar figures – and preferably as faces.

Perhaps it is the horses of my childhood visiting from another world. Some would call it the spirit world, I myself call it the world of imagination. In any case, something that exists but cannot be reached.

Or as my dear father said when I was in my teens "Daga has an inner life".

Self-portraits accompany the whole thing, as well as a few objects from the model installations depicted in the paintings. Having a three-dimensional reference helps me give the paintings a three-dimensional character even if I may not have retained everything I saw.
